We wanted to renovate and extend our 19th century family home without introducing modern additions that would clash with the look and feel of the home we loved. It needed a breath of fresh air while retaining the sense of the old.

I was recommended Pierre Maré by the builder and was so pleased with the result and the process of renovation and rebuilding which was so new to me. My plan was to renovate my old 1930’s bungalow and bring it into the modern world. From beginning to end, Pierre was a great source of both inspiration and practicality. He showed me what would work within the budget and adapted some of my more extreme ideas into a sensible alternative.I was always kept abreast of costs and choices as we refurbished both the inside and outside space.

Local knowledge

I brought Pierre in to help with the technical side of reconfiguring my flat in Belsize Park. I had a friend who's an interior designer handling the design, but I needed someone with local knowledge who could deal with the technical documentation and really understood the building regulations. The big challenge was replacing the old carpet with engineered timber floors — the acoustic rating between flats had to be maintained, and it's not straightforward. Pierre sorted it all out and worked closely with the contractor to get it right. I can now use the flat without worrying about noise for my neighbour below. He's also been really helpful since the project finished, explaining the new Building Safety Act and what it means for my flat. Would definitely recommend him.

I've worked with Pierre on a few projects, including residential developments in Surrey, extensions, loft conversions, and refurbs across London. His drawings are among the clearest I've used. Always prioritises practical installation methods

Pierre often takes on unconventional building projects that call for inventive approaches. We have been working together for several years, collaborating on multiple projects across London, during which I have developed creative and practical engineering solutions for these projects.

These solutions don't necessarily increase costs, as he always prioritises practical installation methods.

We are currently collaborating on a project in Hampstead where we replaced timber roof trusses that impeded additional floor space with minimal-steel trusses. We retained the existing purlins and rafters and merged the contemporary structural improvements with the building's original character.
